The Retirement Wealth Plan
Most People Over 50 Never Hear About.
Millions of people reach this stage carrying the same regret:
"I wish I had started sooner."
You can't change the years behind you.
But you can still change the decades ahead.
I was 54, laid off, mortgage newly signed, two kids in university, and savings I’d spent a year burning through just to keep the household running. There was no plan. There was no runway. There was just the weight of it. That’s where this book begins.
If you landed here, one of these is probably true.
You keep telling yourself you’ll get serious about retirement once things settle down.
After this project.
After the kids are through school.
After the next raise.
After the next year.
But somehow there’s always another “after.”
Or maybe you’ve reached a point where you’re doing reasonably well. The career worked out. The income is respectable. From the outside, everything looks fine.
Yet there’s a nagging feeling that you should be further ahead than you are.
That more years have passed than you’d like to admit.
That retirement is no longer a distant concept — it’s something you’ll have to deal with sooner than you expected.
And while you can't get back the years behind you, you still have a say in what happens with the years ahead.
That's why this book exists.
Or perhaps you've simply realized something most people avoid thinking about:
Time matters.
Retirement After 50
The Book
Building Wealth for Retirement After 50
Securing Your Golden Years
Rather than focusing on theory, it focuses on decisions you can make and steps you can take with the resources, responsibilities, and timeline you have today. By the end, you’ll have a clearer understanding of where you stand, what needs attention, and how to move forward with greater confidence and purpose.
What's inside
10 steps. Each one
a door you can open today.
01
Look your actual numbers in the face
Most people avoid this for years. It takes about 45 minutes. And it changes the entire conversation you've been having with yourself — because you stop guessing and start knowing.
02
The IRS savings rule written for people over 50
It exists. It's legal. It lets you save significantly more per year than any younger worker. Most people at this stage have never heard of it. This chapter fixes that.
03
Adding income without turning your life upside down
Not hustle culture. Income options that fit this stage of life — with one rule that makes every extra dollar actually count toward your future instead of disappearing.
04
Where the money is hiding in your current life
There's more monthly breathing room than you think. This step finds it — the spending you won't miss — and redirects it somewhere it grows instead of disappears.
05
How to invest when you genuinely cannot afford to lose
The balance between growth and protection looks completely different at 50. This chapter draws that line clearly — and shows you exactly which side you should be standing on, and why.
06
The tools that do the work so you don't have to guess
The apps, calculators, and account types that make this manageable. Practical and free — because access to this shouldn't require a financial advisor on retainer.
07
The Social Security decision that quietly costs thousands
One timing choice. A real difference in monthly income for the rest of your life. Most people make this without understanding it. This chapter makes sure you're not one of them.
08
How to walk into retirement owing nobody anything
The exact sequence for eliminating debt before you retire — and why going in debt-free changes everything about how secure and peaceful the next chapter feels.
09
The cost nobody puts in the budget — until it breaks them
Healthcare, Medicare timing, and caregiving. The expenses that blindside most people in retirement. This step puts them on your radar now, while there's still time to prepare.
10
How to legally keep more of what you earn and invest
Roth conversions, tax-advantaged accounts, and deduction strategies built for this stage. In plain English, step by step — because the IRS isn't going to walk you through it.
About the Author
Written by someone who had to
figure it out the hard way.
When LeRoy Deal turned 54, retirement wasn’t a distant concern. It was an uncomfortable reality.
His savings were limited. Then life became even more complicated. A job loss. A newly purchased home. Two children attending university. More than a year without steady income.
The numbers didn’t work.
Like many people, he found himself asking a difficult question: How do you rebuild your financial future when you no longer have decades to spare?
What followed wasn’t a dramatic overnight turnaround. It was a process of learning, testing, adjusting, and slowly rebuilding — one decision at a tim
"There was a night I sat alone in my car in the driveway because I didn't want my family to see the worry on my face. I had gone through the numbers again. I couldn't see a clear way forward. But eventually, one step led to another, and things began to change."
The ten steps in this book grew out of that experience.
Not from theory. Not from an idealized retirement plan. But from the practical challenge of building financial security later in life while real responsibilities, real bills, and real uncertainty were still present.
This book was written for people facing that same challenge today.

If nothing changes, retirement doesn't "fail" overnight. It just gets smaller than you expected.
Fewer choices. Tighter money. More watching what you spend than you planned for at this age.
And the part that stings is this: most of the damage happens quietly. No big warning. Just years passing while nothing meaningful gets fixed.
By the time it feels urgent, options are already reduced.
That's what's at stake. Not panic. Not disaster. Just less room to move.
Less freedom in where you live. Less ease in how you spend. Less control than you assumed you’d have by now.
Retirement will happen either way.
The only question is how much control you still have when it does.
Common questions
If you're considering this and something is holding you back.
"I have almost nothing saved. Is this plan actually relevant to me?"
"My situation involves real debt and obligations. This seems like it was written for someone without those."
The steps were sequenced and developed with those constraints as the baseline — not as edge cases to be addressed in a footnote. Debt, dependents, and ongoing financial obligations are part of the framework’s starting assumptions. The plan does not require a clean balance sheet to begin.
"I've worked through financial books before and nothing changed."
"Can this actually change my retirement outcome at this stage?"
The Club
Build Retirement Wealth Club
For people who started later — and still want to do this properly.
This book is only the beginning. The real work doesn’t happen on these pages. It happens in how you apply it, adjust it, and keep going when things get complicated in real life.
The Club exists for that ongoing part. It’s built for people who didn’t start on time by the textbook — but are serious about getting it right from here.
